Reinstall and Time Machine

Hi. I have an iMac on OS 10.5.8 with Time Machine backup. I need to travel using my macbook which is using OS 10.5.6

Can I reinstall OS 10.5.6 on the Macbook and then use my Time Machine backup to mirror the iMac onto my macbook? If so how?
