Can someone explain if there is ACTUALLY any benefit to reinstalling over the factory installed image on my Late 2016 Macbook Pro? I just got it and it has 10.12.2. I know some people say it improves battery life but I assume that is only when not the newest version.

I mean... Not really, no. You can save som storage space because it'll remove apps like GarageBand and iMovie, but you could also just delete them yourself if that's the point. Remember back when Apple shipped discs? The image they use is identical to a clean install of OS X/macOS plus that extra disc that used to come with OS X, with apps from iLife and whatnot.

There's no benefit. Claims otherwise are just placebo effects.
