Reinstalling Leopard. Please Help!

I wish to reinstall leopard and state my system afresh.

If I have my entire system backed up to A hard drive in time machine, can I erase and install leopard, upgrade to 10.5.2 and then load all of my data back onto my internal?

Will this work for applications?

Yes it's supposed to work but I've been reading the Apple discussion forums, and there have been issues. If you have an additional external hard drive, I'd back everything up there too.
