Reinstalling os - frozen

Hi all,

I'm reinstalling OS Sierra as I'm having trouble with the app store.

When I reinstall it says six minutes remaining but moves very slowly. Then at three minutes it always pauses and never gets further

What can I do

Are you reinstalling from a USB key or internet recovery?

Are you able to partition and erase the drive prior to installing?
