Reinstalling OS X

I'm trying to minimize the install. is x11 something I need to install? what does it provide / do for me?

For most people, X11 is not needed. If you needed it you'd probably know about it.

The most popular app I can think of that uses it Gimp.

If you need it, you can install it after the fact. I'd deselect everything and only install stuff if it comes up that you need it.

Massive saver! The default install includes 2 GB of language localizations and 3 GB of printer drivers. If you don't use iLife and are installing from your restore disks, it's even worse.
