Since I'm paying Apple for 1TB of cloud, because my Photos library is ~300GB, I'd like to use iCloud Drive more.

But I'm worried about it's reliability of syncing, does it have issues?

I really don't want to end up in a situation where I assume iCloud Drive has captured the files on my drive, then later find out it actually failed to sync it or even worse, it got confused and deleted some files.

Any opinions on this?

I consistently use it on OS X, Windows, and iOS. I have never had any issues with any files being lost or corrupted while using iCloud Drive.

However its always good to have a local backup as well IMHO

Thanks for the feedback. What I'm worried about most is files getting lost and me not noticing for weeks or months, by which point the backups have overwritten, that would be a nightmare.

Keep a backup locally though of your mac, (or iPhone or whatever) because if someone steals/guesses your iCloud password and it's your only copy, then you're screwed.

If you buy a big enough drive for time machine, it will keep months/years of snapshots you can roll back to.
