Reloading Ballistic Software

Not saying that it does - but for them to put such language in their EULA for iTunes does give us a hint as to their thinking on such matters. If I recall correctly, Steve Jobs said they would not allow "Porn, privacy [i.e., programs that could comprimise your privacy], bandwidth hog, malicious, illegal, unforeseen" apps - and I'm wondering if the nebulous nature of the word "unforeseen" might apply here.

Not saying it will - just thinking out loud.

Nope, it is absolutely legal. Your reading too much into it.
 
Any one make any progress?

I can help out or write the app if someone provides the math and what they would like specifically to get out of it.
I have a few guns and go the the range once a month or so.
But never got that hardcore into the ballistic side of it.

I wish I had more time to get into greater depth, but I'm putting in 14 hour days until about January.

I suggest reading some of those links, and seeing how the freeware, or web-ware programs run. This is a good web-page too:

Infact, I'd suggest contacting JBM and seeing if they can help you with the math. I really wish I could, since that's my background (physics), but the time just isn't there right now.

I'd be more than happy to test the software, as I go to the range quite frequently for my job.

Look at the Excel program at this link. It's got all the math shown in it, and it's based on Dr. Pejsa's work which I believe to be the most respected.

If someone could just build an easy to use program that allows inputs the same as this Excel file, and spits out the same outputs, I'd pay money for it!!!
 
Ballistic Software

I was just thinking of working on something similar, if interested would someone be interested in giving me feedback once i start so that i get an idea what exactly people would be looking for. I would primarily work on the general ballistics information based on the Pejsa Ballistics.

Surefire has a shot timer application on the iTunes store now. I have it installed on my phone.

So I don't think gun related applications are a problem for Apple... for the moment anyway.
 
Update

Well Knight's Armament Company (KAC) has developed this software, it is 11.99, I think it is worth it. Google their company and voilla!

I almost paid for that, but then I bought "Ballistics" instead. Any serious shooter who wants an app for the iphone should consider ballistics over isnipe or Knight's Armament's app.
 
Ha. A google search found this thread. Must have missed it.

Anyway, count me in for a more reloading oriented app. If you could incorporate ballistics, that would be great, but here are the things reloaders need to keep track of:

bullet manufacturer and type (Hornady JHP)
bullet caliber in inches (.22, .40, .44)
bullet weight in grains (gr.)

powder manufacturer and type (Alliant Bullseye)
powder load in grains

primer manufacturer and type (CCI #500 small pistol)

OAL (overall length) of round in inches
seating depth of bullet in inches

number of times the brass casings have been reloaded

performance of a given load at the range in distance shot at (yards), and spread pattern of holes (inches)

notes of any malfunctions or problems with a given load

I am focusing on pistol reloads, but I'm sure rifle reloaders will chime in with their needs.

Oh, and bump. 😉

I think someone with iPhone development experience could partner up with an existing company to bring over a product or if they have the drive to strike it out on their own. It's all basic mathematics and if you post on the shooting forums the users will let you know what they want.

Ballistic Software for Mac

I know this post is old. Dug it up on a google search. Maybe we can breath new life into it.

I recently contacted Patagonia Ballistics, makers of the excellent Loadbase 3.0 ballistics program. Their reply was that they were "dedicated" to the Windows platform and had no plans to develop for Apple.

A poor business decision in my opinion as Apple is seemingly taking over the world with iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, iMacs, etc.

I believe the Loadbase program sells for around $150. Perhaps someone with some programing Mac skills may contact Patagonia and work something out?
