Ok so I remember there is an Apple utility that allows you to put the boot partition on a USB Key, but I can not seem to find it anywhere on Apple's site, so does anyone know where I can find it.

You could also make a USB Install Disk using DiskMaker X (Lion Disk Maker) which you can find here: http://liondiskmaker.com/

    :D

OS X Recovery Disk Assistant is what you are after. Requires a 1GB+ USB key and will make a recovery utility on the key.
