I thought it was mentioned somewhere in a thread on these forums that the cell phone companies can not take action to keep consumers from unlocking their phones. The original poster mentioned some law to that effect. True or not, I don't really care, but I have never seen any cell phone companies try to fight it before, either equipment or service providers.

As far as the hacks go... I'm sure that Apple's next move will be to deny service on their computers if the consumers install third party software. I've already heard one genius tell a customer that he could fix his computer, but he'd have to completely reformat his hard drive and he'd only get the OS. It seems that Apple thinks that they are the boss of everyone, like some corporate IT department.
