One of my banking apps still hasn’t been updated for the bigger screen sizes since the release of the 6/6+ over three years which is ridiculous so I’m not holding my breath that it gets updated for the iPhone X anytime soon.

Lol, funnily enough, my banking app which is not known to be updated regularly has already pushed out an update for the iPhone X. I’m very surprised, out of all the apps I have I didn’t think they would be one of the first to update.

It took around three months for most iPhone 4 apps to be updated for the iPhone 5, if I recall correctly.

I have some Apps, that never updated. Recently I deleted them, because they were still 32bit, and would no longer function.

There will always be abandoned apps.

My worry is that the iPhone X screen seems to be a niche size and app developers won’t be as compelled to adapt to it unlike previous changes. Are all future phones going to have the same aspect ratio and notch or is the iPhone 8/8+ screen sizes going to be the dominant aspect ratio for the foreseeable future?

If apps are built using standard auto-layout storyboards, they likely won’t even need any changes. With mine, all I had to do was recompile using the new version of Xcode, and the apps automatically fill the X screen properly. No changes on my end at all. I’m planning on submitting my updates once I get time to verify everything works. Probably tomorrow.

Well within a year it’ll probably be something like a 30-40 millions niche of high spending users, so we will be seeing updates, but it will take time.

i recall it took months for whatsapp and facebook apps to be updated and optimised for the ip6+ screen

And this time Apple made it easy (see my post a few posts up). Facebook was actually updated right away, much to my surprise, along with a bunch of other apps. Which just makes it that more annoying to see ones that haven’t been.

Especially when I installed today’s Gmail update, and it’s still letterboxed... wtf... That tells me they are not using the new version of Xcode.

Let's hope developers are quicker to update this time, as I remember the ages some seemed to take to accommodate the ip6 screen, (e.g. months for the sat nav app i use and paypal, but then again paypal always seem slow and still don't even have an ipad app!).
There was a good bunch that seemed to update ready for the X's launch, but of the apps i use regularly none have updated for the X in the 10 days since its been available, even though some of those apps have made other updates in that time.

My banking app only updated from the old 5/5S size this year and they surprisingly have all ready updated it for the X, I couldn't believe it.

That letterboxed top and bottom that makes the screen feel so much older and smaller?

That’s exactly what it feels like when I open an app that’s not updated to fit the iPhone X screen.

Sounds like you have been around long enough to know it is up to the developers to get this done and many will take their time, so will not update at all. As far as Apple purging these apps, the could get rid of many more apps than that as some are just junk!

Definitely annoying. I am seeing much faster updates for my X. Of the 48 apps on my phone, only 4 aren't updated for the X screen. Not so bad.
