Remember Your First Time on the Internet?

What web sites did you visit the FIRST time you used the internet?

For me, the year was 1996. I had just graduated High School a week before. I went to my local library to check out the internet. I got a computer within 5 minutes. I had a huge grin and I kept saying, “COOL!” (Young and naive)

The very first website I used was Yahoo. I used it to search for Bone Thugs lyrics and sites.

The Internet as we now know it? I got on it in 1995 - using IRC - mIRC 1.0.
I went to college in 1996 the second semester the campus was upgraded with ethernet and I was able to download... "stuff" at 25kB/sec - which was fast.

Before the internet I was on CompuServ in their "go graphics" section. I had a hack that would allow me to download everything for free.

I remember using my 2400 baud modem, dial up to compuserve, and get my first email address: 74763.8057@compuserve.com ... this is back in 1991

Me, too! I was a kid and didn't quite understand the need for it until about 1993-4, when I started using prodigy community boards and usenet.

Accessed Internet via a hacked ingres account on a University of Miami UNIX server around late 1992. Used to access IRC. This was largely pre-WWW. Didn't use the WWW for the first time until around summer of 1994. NCSA Mosaic installed on sparcstations in a lab at Florida State University.

I first used the internet in 1999 when I was five years old on IE...5? I think. 'Twas to go on Sesame Street and Disney.com ...heh. I remember dancing to the dial-up tone noises...

Personally I believe that iWeb and the reintegration of power focuses attention on the formation of Power Macintosh paratextual apparatus. Those are my first memories of the internet.

Heck, I was online before there was a thing called the internet.
There was compuserve and a widely popular thing called BBS

Same here BBS was the thing and there were no web sites then like today, all text like a DOS window

I was on a couple of BBSes in high school, usually grabbing stuff for the Commodore. I got my first email account in 1991 at college, and started using stuff like Archie, Gopher, and various FTP sites. Sadly, I also found BBSes on the internet and MUDs. I lost a semester or two to those things. Ouch. I saw my first web browser (Mosaic) around 1994 when one of my profs, who was a major geek, showed all the pretty pictures you could look at on the internet. I remember thinking "So what? What is it good for?"

I guess I found out.

OMG Gopher and MUDs! I remember that now. God I must be getting old!
