Reminder Alerts - iCloud and iMac

This is weird to me. I set reminders on my iPhone and they sync fine over to my iMac. However, when I click that I completed the reminder on my phone, it doesn't sync that over to my iMac so I get a belated and unneeded reminder alert on my desktop.
Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?
