I'd like to be able to work on the imac in the office from home, on my macbook, although i'd need the remote screen in the office to stay blank and not show what i'm doing when logged in as i work in a public office with a few people.

Are there any apps that enable me to do this or is there a feature inbuilt into OSX?

Apple Remote Desktop can do everything you want.

Inbuilt is just the basic VNC support, but that does not blank out your target screen while working on it.

I also use logmein and is great, no problem at all, security for the free version is the same for the pay, pay version get you files tranfer, printing and reports.

I use http://logmein.com and have had very good results. There is a personal use version that is free, or you can pay for a more secure, commercial use version.
