Remote App + 1st Gen ATV = crash!

As titles says trying to use the Remote App to navigate a Gen 1 ATV causes ATV to crash & reboot. No issues using Remote to play or pause music, just navigation. Pressing "menu" stops ATV cold.

Is this normal b/c this ATV is do old?
