Somewhere in Florida
on daring fireball podcast with Eddie and Craig they discuss it a bit. Gestures and other features. Gruber asks what that means beyond trackpad which the current one does. Eddie just mentions it's going to be feature parity with the remote without getting too specific unfortunately.

So the good news: the remote is getting some love this spring.

And people will find other things to bitch about instead. Suddenly the Remote app will not be significant but other things ATV lacks will become indispensable. :)

Not new information and nothing newer to discuss -- it's what Eddy Cue stated in a BuzzFeed interview back on December 9th. There's no beta yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's native, like the Watch app. It also wouldn't surprise me if after that happens, it'll be 'debated' in tech blogs everywhere with headings like "Apple Does One More Bloatware" or "Apple Advertises AppleTV by Forcing ATV App". The non-controversy will be forgotten. For some, it'll just be for another unused native app to tuck away in the 'Apples' folder...
