Remote control app for tv from computer

Hi guys,
I have an AC and a tv that both have ir ports, and have remotes, i have lost the remotes though... I know my mac has an ir port, so im just wondering if i can control my ac and my tv from my mac? Is there a program for this?

I may be completely wrong about this, but I think that the IR port on the mac is for input signal, not output signals. You would need it to be able to out put signals to send the signal to the TV and / or AC.

If I'm wrong, no doubt one of these knowledgable folks will chime in and correct me.
