I just got a 2010 MacMini which will be connected to a DAC to play LossLess music (the library is fully in FLAC so no AAC to feed iTunes), I am looking for a solution to run the Mini headless and control the music software (which I haven't got yet) through an iOS device, any suggestion for both the music software and iOS controlling app?

Grazie

Offhand, I can only think of one way with FLAC, macOS and iOS and that would be Plex. The iOS app lets you select the output (which in your case would be a web browser on your Mini) and has options like Playlists "Add to queue" and "Play Next".

Kodi (formerly XBMC) might be able to handle this.

I have the Kodi remote app on both my iPhone and my iPad mini paired to Kodi running on a ghetto $170 Windows 10 box.

While my setup is mostly used to play videos, Kodi can play ALAC and FLAC music files.
