Hi,

I have a 2012 Mac Mini that came with a 128gb SSD and a 1TB spinning drive operating together as a Fusion Drive. Today I replaced the 128gb SSD with a new 1TB SSD in the SSD slot. I did not remove the old 1TB hard drive from the Mini. Should I have? Disk Utilities reports several read errors on the drive, so I don’t plan to use it. Is there a way to disable it, short of opening the system and disconnecting the cable?

I have the same setup and would like to replace the 128 SSD by a 500 but I don’t think it is that easy, I am not even sure if it is possible.

You can erase the drive - remove the formatting completely via "gpt destroy" and it will only show in Disk Utility and hardware info. Then should spin down in energy saver preferences.
