Remove scratches from Aluminium Unibody Macbook

How to put a FINISh on your aluminium macbook pro body.

To remove scratches from the body & bad corners etc you really need to strip out the machine properly & have the body refinished & sealed, we specialise in this service here in Ireland but to do yourself i'd recommend this kit which comes with instructions, try on an old piece of aluminium from a scrap yard or something like copper sheet 1st to get used to the feel, I hope i'm not breaking any forum rules here by adding this link, the only extra you need is a dremel kind of tool.

Meguiar's may "remove" your scratch, but it will also permanently discolor your anodized surface, making it brighter and more reflective as some of the anodized surface is polished off -- trust me on this. Don't do it.

Likewise, the silver pen option posted by others also does not work.

Having researched this thoroughly, I am convinced that there is no way to restore an anodized surface with a scratch on it to pristine condition. As much as I hate to say it, the best advice is to just let it go.
 
Try Magic Eraser for superficial scratches!

I was looking through this forum, hoping for a fix for slew of scratches on my 2-week old Macbook Air. I also tried various cleaners with no luck - but I happened to also try a Magic Eraser and they are gone!

Now these weren't gouges in the surface of the unibody but metal to metal scratches from a pen clip in my briefcase rubbing against it on a 5 hour flight from LA.

Anyway - give the Mr Clean Magic Eraser a try, it can certainly removed those small discolored scratches.

magic erasers are amazing!
 
I do not see any way to remove a scratch without changing the surrounding area's finish and it not matching the rest of the surface.

To work you would have to use some type of brush or other abrader that matches the existing aluminum surface.:rolleyes:
 
I thought I would post a review of Meguiar's Scratch x2.0.

I was looking to remove or diminish some very light and one deep scratch from the aluminium on a Macbook Pro, iPad mini 2 and iPad (3rd Gen). All of them are silver.

I had read lots of people advising Meguiars as a solution so I ordered some in. It did absolutely nothing. I took before and after photos hoping to post some amazing results, but there really is no point. There is nothing to see here, move on. It might have left some very slight dulling but to be honest I can't be sure, it could be my eyes deceiving me looking for something that's not there.

TLDR. Meguiars doesn't work to remove scratches off Apple products, don't bother.

Since I had all the gear out I thought I would try some Polywatch too. Polywatch is a scratch remover designed for plastic watch faces. I have used it with incredible success on my Swatch and DVDs. It really is incredible stuff and for these scenarios I highly recommend it. I wasn't expecting too much though because it's made for plastic surfaces. No joy with this, no scratch removal.

TLDR. Polywatch doesn't work either.
 
Hey guys, Can anyone recommend a way for me to move this chip on the top of my Macbook. Its brand new and it fell while it was charging. Please help me.

There's really nothing you can do, any attempt to remove it will result in something that will decidedly look worse imo.

WOW, DSCbklyn, thank-you so much for this post!
I have an "Aluminum" iMac that I accidentally scratched. I picked up a screwdriver from the desk and the tip dragged across the back of the iMac, leaving an ugly, curved scratch. I ran my fingernail across it but could not feel a dip, so it wasn't deep, but it sure was ugly, and did not wipe off with soap and water. After reading your post I (gently) used a damp Magic Eraser, and it totally worked! No trace of a scratch, even after thorough drying, so I am very happy!
