Well seems like a lot of work to try and fake a software update but I connected my iPhone 4 and clicked check for update and didn't get anything.
 
Sorry about that, I guess I got excited about nothing. I guess when you do a Restore it looks like you are getting a software update.

Sorry for "crying wolf" everyone...🙁
