Removing Apple ID in iMessage

So I've been receiving iMessages twice on my iPhone. I'm assuming thats' bc I have 2 receipts, one to my phone, and one to my email which is linked to my phone. I signed out of my Apple ID through iMessage, and iMessage seems to be slower (sending, delivering, seeing they are typing a response). Is that possible? Or is it in my head
