Removing Apple ID

When I bought my iphone 3 some one put their apple id on my phone and now I can't figure out how to get it off.

Log out, and log in with your own?

It only comes up when I try to download an app. His id comes up and requests a password. I can't get it to recognize my id.

Settings > Store > Apple ID > Sign Out

Also settings>general>reset then select erase all content and settings. This will give you a clean iPhone ready to have your account and back up installed.
