Removing BootCamp partition

I've gone through some threads about removing a BootCamp partition.. but when I start up BootCamp it says, "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."

What exactly does this mean?

Now it says "MediaKit reports no such partition"

Why is this so difficult to remove?

hmm dont know your problem , but just follow the instructions here and the bootcamp partition will be gone the same way it was created

did that multiple times since i always install some linux distros , and when i am done with them i just delete the bootcamp partition again

I had the same problem. I ended up having to reinstall from a time machine backup. Huge PITA and I don't think I'll be using bootcamp again.
