Hi.

How do you remove a file off a flashdrive?

I deleted the file from my flashdrive and tried to empty my trash bin. However, when I do that it says the item is "still in use". I tried restarting my computer and closing all my programs, but the file still appears in the trash bin and refuses to be deleted.

It is active on the flashdrive because when I eject the flashdrive, the file disappears from the trashbin, but reappears when I plug the flashdrive back in.

I've tried replacing the file with a file that is named the same, but it still says that the file is in use and nothing can be done with it.

How do I get rid of this file?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you!

This was actually the exact scenario I was in and the solution worked.

Thanks for the quick help!

"If you can't empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash

For example, this message might appear when you try to empty the Trash: "The operation could not be completed because the item '(item name)' is locked."

First, try holding the Option key as you choose Empty Trash from the Finder's File menu."
