on the current models of macbook pros, is it possible to remove keys to clean under them or remove something that went under the key

It is possible. I have done it, the keys are just a PITA to put back on, but yes it can be done.
 
Its possible, but don't take out the big keys like return or shift or the space bar, as these can be really hard to get back in =o
