Ok, so I did a time machine backup of my volume on a previous computer (Snow Leopard). My older Macbook had a modem and had the status of it in the menu. I am now showing the status in the menu. I can't get rid of it b/c there is no internal modem to click off (Show Status in Menu Bar). Any ideas on this?

I had this same problem for, literally, years until I finally asked someone on here :)

I know the problem has been solved, but another option is actually to open up system preferences -> networking -> on the very bottom it says show airport status in menu bar uncheck that.

Basically anything in the menubar (except 3rd party apps) can be toggled on and off using system preferences :)
