Removing part of the name in multiple files

Hi All,
New member of the forums and have a newbie question.
I have about 400 files in a folder with same extension. For ex. name1.htb.mat,
nam2.htb.mat etc. I want to remove the .htb part from each file name, so the new file names will be name1.mat, name2.mat. Is there a way to do this in Mac? Or via Unix?

Edit: To expand on the link above. Go to terminal and type the following (I tested it and it worked):

ls *.htb.mat | awk '{print("mv "$1" "$1)}' | sed 's/.htb//2' | /bin/sh

Isn't there some free software out there that will do this too? I'm curious to see all the different ways to do this.
