Removing saved config files from old programs

Hi,

This may be trivial to all of you, in which case I'm in luck, but I am stuck and need some help.
Basically I've been trying to figure out this emacs program used to well to program. I accidentally saved over the init file, (or the lisp, scratch buffer, whatever you call it file). I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it yet the file reamains the dud one i accidentally saved. Is there a way to locate the file which has the config settings for emacs and remove it? I am close to just formatting because i'm pissed off so any help is great.
