Hello!

I currently use two side-by-side Studio Displays, which, unfortunately both get identified as "Studio Display Camera" when using different applications.

Is anyone aware of a way to rename either the displays or the display cameras to something different? (For example, Studio Display Left and Studio Display Right).

Thanks so much

You might be able to use SwitchResX to rename the displays, but only if the displays have different manufacture week/year.

1) Connect one display (disconnect the other). Check the manufacture week/year in the EDID. Change the name of the display. Save changes.
2) Disconnect that display and connect the other. Check the name. It should be the default. Check the manufacture week/year in the EDID. Change the name of the display. Save changes.
3) Disconnect both displays. Connect both displays and check the names.

I'm not 100% sure about this. Even if they have different dates, SwitchResX might treat them as the same?

Does the order of the naming in macOS always correspond to the ports they are plugged into?

if so, you might just be able to force left/right to be first/second.

Arrrg...I just picked up two Appel Studio Displays and have the exact same problem.

I am not loving that my USD 200 Dell work monitors that are identical can distinguish themselves, but USD 6,000+ worth of monitors cannot!

I can't believe Apple hasn't made this process as simple as clicking a text entry box and typing a new name. The SwitchResX method is a pain (partially due to the requirement of physically unplugging the displays). @joevt has the first clear-cut directions I've come across.

Can you provide a link to those instructions?

Apologies, I am a little confused. Where exactly are you changing the name of the display (i.e., is it in the SwitchResX app or elsewhere and, if elsewhere, then where)? Thank you.

In "SwitchResX Control.app", select your display, Then click on the name (above the Vendor and Product IDs) to rename it.

SwitchResX just creates or modifies a plist file in the /Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides folder.
