Renaming a folder (Another stupid question)

Don't fret it, it's what we're here for! (well, it's amongst the reasons that we're here)

Select the folder and hit return. Or select the folder, then click on the name, and wait. Or select the folder, hit Cmd-I, then under "name & extension" change the name. 😛

Just click on it once (no double-click) and you can rename it with ease. Any other questions, feel free to ask... 😎

its just that I'm a noob with OS X and some laughed at some of my question before so I'd thought I'd take caution.

No need to worry about asking "stupid" questions - there really is no such thing. At one point or another, we all were in the same boat.

Just scan through the various Help Threads, FAQs and Stickies in the Forums, check out the MacRumors Guides wiki and you'll find all sorts of helpful info. 🙂

Hey, I had the same problem when I first got my iMac. Tried right-clicking and there was no joy; I became really frustrated. That was the first time I had to refer to one of the books I'd bought....and boy, was I surprised at how EASY it was -- so much easier than on a Windows machine! LOL!

For all of us migrating from Windows there are going to be these funny little incidences where we suddenly can't do something that we knew how to do on Windows....and when we'll be pleasantly surprised at how easy and instinctive it actually can be when done on a Mac!

also you can click on the folder and hit the "enter" key...not return. That brings you to the folder or file name whatever you are changing the name to and then hit enter again after the change you want to keep and there you go.

I'm a recent switcher and loving every minute of the Mac experience 🙂. Just a quick clarification on the rename files / folders topic: if I select the file / folder and hit enter, this is the equivalent to htiting F2 in Windows, right (I'm at work on a Windows PC, so I can't test it right now 😉)?

Is there any way to bind F2 to a renaming function and binding Enter to open a folder?

Yeah, selecting the file/folder and hitting return/enter is the same as hitting F2 in Windows.
