I’m running into an issue with trying to rename my Apple TV.

I want to name it “Apple TV” but when I do that on the Home app it switches it to the default “Living Room”. I can rename it “Apple TV 4K”, but not just plain old “Apple TV.”

Is there any way to fix this?

I don't think the Home app can rename AppleTVs. You name your AppleTV on the AppleTV itself in Settings.

I've tried renaming it on the settings of the Apple TV itself and it has the same issue. It always will default back to "Living Room" if you rename it to "Apple TV."

I just tried renaming my Apple TV 4th gen to Apple TV and it let me do it using the Home app on either my iPad Pro or Mac mini. Apple TV is actually the default name if I completely delete the custom name. Not sure where yours is getting Living Room from. Maybe it is an issue with the Apple TV 4k.

Huh. Could be an issue with the Apple TV 4K

I have renamed all my aTVs without problems. Just do it in Settings on aTV. I had to use remote app on iPhone to enter special characters from apple charset.

It's not an issue with renaming in general but specifically renaming it just "Apple TV." You renamed your device "tv 4K" which should be fine, but I want to rename it to "Apple TV" which it doesn't seem to let you do.

Oh, I see. Let me try it out.

You were right!
It does not allow "Apple TV". It will accept "AppleTV".
The cost of my testing today (with tvOS 12.0.1) was, that now also my favourite "tv 4K" is not allowed any more.
It complains that name starts with invalid symbol.

This is frustrating. I don’t want my Apple TV to be named for the room that it’s in. I just want it to be “Apple TV”. I assume Apple’s logic in this is to help identify multiple Apple TVs in a household, but I have just one, and I would like to be able to identify my device for what it is. I understand I can rename it to anything other than “Apple TV”, which is what I may have to do.

Looking at the same issue, you will not be able to rename to Apple TV as this is the default for the command. I have a 1080 Apple TV and just bought a 4K one, I found that renaming to AppleTV no spaces did work, also 4KAppleTV.
