Hi everyone I hope you're all well.

I currently shoots videos with a mix of cameras (currently Sony and Panasonic) and end up with hundreds of files named Pxxxxxxx (for example). I like to keep the original filename but add what the video actually shows to the name. For example I might go from "P12345" to "P12345 Dancing".

Could anyone suggest a program that would simplify this process? I've considered writing a batch file to do it (maybe taken additional data from a text file), but my life would be so much easier if there as an app to do it that could also preview the files. I currently just use Finder but it's a pain to have to preview then rename and move to the part after the original filename!

Thank you!

In the camera itself, set the file name to make it easier to sort. It is called project shooting. Before you shoot, you create a title, for example: “dancing”, ‘John's birthday’.
Good programs for working with video catalogs:
Blu-ray Master Video Converter Ultimate, VLC Media Player, Canto DAM, Movienizer.

Thank you I'll have a look at the those. I've tried in the past to change names in camera but I just shoot so many different bits throughout the day it's just not really possible but I should probably do it when I can.

Don't know if you've tried it already but there is also the built-in batch renamer. So you can for example preview the files in Finder, select the ones that belong to the same batch, then go via File-Rename, and append after the filename.

Oh I didn't know about that! Thank you :)
