rendering station - mini - imac - mac pro

Just looking for some opinions on a system to render home vids, I got piles of dv tape that i need to put to disc, I was looking at a mac pro, but i am thinking it is overkill for my needs! But i will be moving up to HD before too long, so maybe the new mini (penryn) would be a good choice, I have a macbook pro right now buy i dont like puting it through intensive workouts because its gets so warm! lol besides if i can do with a mini i could use the difference to get a nice HD cam 🙂

What kind of render times would a penryn c2d be looking at for HD vid? SD vid?

what frame size HD? what format (source and destination)? etc

I'd go with the an imac rather than a mini.

Go with the Mac Pro, it's more powerful, more expandable and you can get a decent monitor ... 🙂

looks as though unless your going to be using fcp and compressor the mp is serious over kill

yup! if you're springing for the pro machine, you better be using the pro software (total generalization, but applicable).
