Unfortunately, the renderman Artist Tools is NOT available for Mac! These are the programs that are the front end to Maya and allow seemless integration of Maya with Renderman, so this is not really very good news at all...

Aren't there third party plugin's for OSX that output RIB's (renderman files) from Maya? I'm 95% sure there are.

Besides, if you are able to run renderman, you are able enough to make your own rib outputer.....renderman aint no walk in the park...Its really for serious power users and C++ whizzes and big studios.

agreenster, if you read all the info on pixars web page about MTOR, SLIM, and other Artist Tools, its clear that normal users can achieve results with RM without programming or being a total geek...WITHOUT these tools however, the opposite is true...

Here is a blurb from SLIM's description:

"Slim is a capable tool that provides automated and customized solutions for shading workflow. Slim also functions as a shader generator, allowing RenderMan shaders to be generated interactively, without programming."

And MTOR provides a seemless connection to RM, translating Maya's geometry and shaders into RIB readable format, etc.

So, I guess this is yet another one of those things Mac users will go without, just like Unlimited...

Wow. Nice info. Must say I've never heard of that. :D

EDIT

Wow again--just read the info. This is all new stuff they are churning out over there. This must have all been announced recently.
