This happens to me with all 4 movies I rented on Apple TV 4 with latest OS (10.2 I believe). Some kindly told me I now have 23 hours to watch it. Some didn't even bother (plain Play button with no text). I knew when I went to TV app and saw all 4 had 23 hours left. Suck.
If I rent on my iPad I get 29 days available.

Anyone got this problem?

I don't get that particular problem, but I do get other problems like only 2 of my purchased movies being available on my iphone, one on my ipad while all are on my apple tv. The apple cloud services just aren't very reliable.

Ring them up and they will fix it and maybe give you something for your inconvenience.

Are you on 10.2.1?

Thinks it might has something to do with "Rent once, watch anywhere" that just introduced so I wanna warn everyone who has latest OS to just rent it on your iPhone or iPad instead,

Or it could be the glitch in the server like you said and will be fixed soon, hopefully.

I just rented a movie via our ATV4 on Saturday. Luckily I did not encounter the same issue that the OP did. I selected the "rent and watch later" option and I was good to go.

The one thing I did find odd is that the film did not show up in the "rented" section of iTunes Movies app.

Hopefully it is just a glitch.

I'm guessing you're on 10.2.1 as well?

Rental movies seem got moved to TV app now. I don't see any of my rental in Movies either. Previously they would be in Purchased tab, now they're gone.

That would explain why. I rarely use the TV app, especially on my Apple TV. So it makes sense that the movie I rented would have been there.

Sadly after waiting a couple of weeks to let the issue solves itself it looks like it's still there. The 1st one I rented on my Apple TV has 23 hours left. The 2nd one I rented on my iPad a few minutes later, 29 days left.:rolleyes:

Can't believe I'm the only unlucky guy out there.

(FWIW! There's a great promotion for Asian films on iTunes ATM. You can rent The Handmaiden, The Assassin, the Man From Nowhere, Mother, Ong Bak, Like Father Like Son, Still Walking and many more for just ¢99 NOW!)

While different than renting within :apple:TV, this should solve the problem without hoping Apple might change an algorithm.

I don't think it's the problem with algorithm. Think it's a bug on my ATV. Will wait for when the new OS comes out to test it again.

If it's a bug on your :apple:TV, reset to factory and update as necessary. Then see if the problem persists. If so, take it into Apple and they'll probably swap it out. Do you have a friend with the same version of :apple:TV? Go to their place, rent the same movie and see if it works the same way.

However, again, if I'm you, I might try the above but, if that doesn't do it (especially if Apple swaps it out), I'd just initiate my rentals on my computer (in iTunes) and then play them on my :apple:TV whenever I'm ready.
