In the past when I've rented an HD movie through Apple TV, I've been able to start watching it after 2% has downloaded.

I've recently rented a few movies that have taken forever to start loading. I just rented one now and it's 6% complete, however Apple TV tells me I can't watch it for another 57 minutes or so.

Anyone have any idea what gives? My internet connection is plenty fast. I'm getting close to 10mb/s.

No help from me other than I am running into the same problem. I originally stopped renting HD movies because of the wait. Now it standard def movies are taking for ever to buffer. We have started to select the movie one day and plan on watching the next day. I seem to remember the watching SD movies after a couple minutes.

This usually means there is a bandwidth issue. It can either be with your ISP or with Apple. Movies start when AppleTV calculates that it can do so without running out of buffer. If it takes 1 minute to buffer 2% of a 100 minute movie, AppleTV will calculate that the total download time will be 50 minute, and thus start playing because it would never outrun it's buffer. If it took 5 minutes to buffer 2%, it might not start playing for well over an hour.
