Repair: before or after?

My HD needs repair according to Disk Utility... should I insert the disk... download this security update.. and then as it does the necessary reboot hold down C? Or should I repair... which means retart twice.. then download the security update for a third reboot?

Because the repair means there's something wrong with the disk or the file system nodes that can be fixed, but if you start an update that will write a lot of files and change files on the disk while it's in an unfixed state, you have a higher chance of causing more damage or borking some system files entirely.

If ever you notice the drive needs repairing, do it straight away. You don't want to lose any data or mess up the system. 🙂
