Hello, I have bought a 2012 Mac Pro and unfortunately it was damaged on transit. The hardware if perfectly fine and the machine runs, but I am looking for somewhere in the UK to repair the metal case/chasis. The corners have been warped so its very difficult to open the compartment to the hardware. Is this something that could be fixed by bringing the desktop into an Apple Store?

    Best

    Jake.

I think the best option is to get a replacement case or take it to a metal work shop and have them do it, I don't think an Apple store would be able to help. It's happened to mine and on close inspection it's kinda riveted together and in transit the rivets popped. I think it'd be pretty hard to repair without anything showing on the outside but a specialist might have better ideas than me.

Any Apple Store or authorized service provider can transfer the components from the old mac pro case to the new casing.
they won't fix the damage, just a new casing. search on the apple site for a store or authorized service provider.

these 1,1 and 2,1 are not compatible with the 2012. 2012 has logic board and daughtboard connectors as well as different data connectors among other revisions.

Hi Jake, If you send me a PM i can give you a price for swapping out the chassis for a brand new one. My Workshop is in kentish town, london and it would take about a day in total. the chassis direct from apple are not the cheapest but if you PM me the serial number i can see what i can do.

Four years ago while moving house my fully loaded Mac Pro 3,1 slipped from my hands & dropped to the floor from a height of no more than a foot which results in a bent foot & distorted corner of the case. I attempted DIY repair without success & have investigated the possibilities of having it repaired & my conclusion is that it's basically impossible or at least if it could be done it would be uneconomic compared to the cost of buying a used undamaged case & doing a transplant. In the end I did nothing as it's really only cosmetic & at the rear anyway.
