So the last week has been relative hell for me. My Touch ID button cracked on my 7+ (which isn't insured because their stupid website wouldn't let me sign up for insurance). I was fine using the on-screen software button for a while, but then the button started getting very warm to the touch. I didn't want to risk something starting on fire, so I decided to get it repaired. Thus it began...
Repair ID #1: Despite typing it back to me 2 times correctly, the person got it wrong when they entered it into the system. I did not find this out until I was at the UPS Store and they read it back to me incorrectly. They wouldn't ship it out until apple got the address right.
Repair ID #2: Set up with the correct address, but they sent me a box for the apple watch instead of an iphone. Also, the next morning the repair cancelled itself without being prompted.
Repair ID #3: Set up with the correct address, and received an iphone box. However, this too was cancelled the next morning without being prompted. Evidently neither Apple nor my credit card company could tell me that the charges looked fraudulent. (WTF!)
Repair ID #4: This was set up entirely wrong from the beginning and they wanted to charge me 840 dollars for the repair. I did NOT pay it. This one was left open though and not cancelled. (more later...)
Repair ID #5: This was finally set up correctly. I waited a day to see if my other payment method worked and it seemed like it did. So I took it to the UPS store and they shipped it out without any issues.
Soooo... late this morning UPS delivered the phone to the apple repair facility just fine. I then got both repairs 4 and 5 cancelled simultaneously. I contacted support yet again, and basically all they could tell me is that they were still going to repair it and that I'd hear back from them when the repair was complete. Yet I go and look at the status of the repair and it says cancelled. I have no way to track the status of the repair and I'm just supposed to "trust their word" that my $950 phone (now almost $1150 w/repair) will make it back to me.
Is this how Apple support usually is? Did they cause me so many problems in an attempt to make me buy a new phone instead of repairing my 7+? I will be astonished if I ever see my phone again. People praise apple support like they're gods or something but I want absolutely nothing to do with them ever again. It's been a gigantic waste of time (over 5 hours spent chatting with them) and I have a horrible feeling in my stomach.
I've spent several thousand dollars on apple products over the last few years, but this is really giving me second thoughts about sticking with them going forward. Incredibly disappointed and frustrated.
