I know. But his phone isn’t “perfectly fine” due to the cheap third-party repair. I don’t know what you’re getting at.
He said he can get the cheap repair fixed for free. So essentially he will have a perfectly fine phone at no additional cost.

I think he’s saying it would basically be free because he got the cash from the insurance company to pay for a proper fix through apple. But it would still cost money to repair, it just wouldn’t be out of his own funds since he got the money from insurance

So his dilemma is does he want to put the money towards a proper apple fix or put the money down on a phone upgrade.

Honestly OP, that’s purely a personal preference. My mom still uses my old 8 plus and has zero complaints with it. It’s due for a new battery and she would much rather get a new battery then a new phone.

I’m the opposite, I love having the latest and greatest tech, even if I don’t need it.

Much depends on you and how much expendable income you have. I also vote for upgrade if you have the money.
