repairing with my install disk

Hi,

My disk utility app said it have to repair my main hard drive: Macintosh HD
Now i know I have to start up my macbook with the disk in it (and holding option if i'm not mistaken), and then selecting it from a menu.

But what exactly is repairing my hard drive? will it reinstall snow leopard and remove all my files? or will nothing happen at all🙂

It will repair the file system and NOT remove any of your data and it will NOT reinstall Mac OS X.
