System pref's keep locking up on me and I have to restart to get it to respond - I think it has something to do with time machine preparing to copy data - when I open it and see that it's preparing and try to close, it just freeze's and I can't quit the application.

I have to do a hard reset to get it working.

Is this a known problem or are others having problems, too.

I havn't had this issue and while what you describe does sound like it is time machines fault do you have any other system preferences installed. You could try removing these and see if that fixes the problem.

I only have steermouse, perian and flip4mac installed - I don't think they will be doing anything. I'm more and more sure it's a time machine thing.

It says preparing for AGES - anyone know if that's normal

Yeah, it keeps doing it - it's time machine. When it starts to update and says 'preparing' and I view it in system prefs, it won't close and I have to hard reset the machine. Annoying.

I'm having the same problem with System Preferences crashing, but I am not using Time machine at the moment, so it may not be that.

iBecks, can you do a permissions check

This is what I get (even after repair)

Have done that, no file permission problems found.

I have a feeling it may be to do with Parallels, as its happened when that is running, I'm going to do some more testing.

Does anyone know what the dealio is with the permissions?

10.5.1 isn't far away, but I'm not confident it will help.
