My power supply in my MP 2006 is clicking like crazy! It has been doing this for a year now and getting progressively worse. I know for sure that the power supply is causing the noise because I've opened it up to examine. The biggest coils were the source of clicking, and this clicking travels through my entire household power circuit. I can even hear the click in my other PC's PSU's when the MP is on . So definitely time to replace it.

Is a 2008 power supply compatible with my MP 1 1? Looking at the 2008 model's specs it seems to have more amps per rail.

Does that make it a better option in the long run? I've upgraded the CPU's to Xeon quad-core 2.66's so it must use a bit more power than the standard MP 2006.

Otherwise I'll just order one of these if it would be adequate.

No a 3,1 Mac Pro PSU is not compatible with a 1,1 Mac Pro.
