MP 7,1 Replaced 580X with W5700X Won't power up.

Bought a W5700X on Ebay to replace the 580X and it didn't power on. Put the 580X back in and still no joy.
It's completely dead doesn't do anything.
Can a bad graphics card take the whole computer down ?
Is there a fuse or reset anywhere ?
Did it kill the power supply ?

The hardware change may have confused the SMC. Unplug the power cord for at least 15 seconds. Plug power cord back in. Wait at least 5 seconds before hitting the power button.

I bought a second hand Mac Pro with a 580X card. And installed two W6800X duos, without any problem.
So I can not see why one W5700X should cause a problem.

You say it does not power on now. Do you see a SOS signal on the power diode, next to the power button? Or does it not emit any light at all, as you say it is completely dead?

Does not power on at all. No light. Completely dead.
I was wondering if a bad card could take out the power supply ?

I'm pretty sure in the multiple times I tried to start it I gave it that much time. It's not at my house so I will try again today. When not in use it has the circuit breaker off so it's had no power to it overnight.
Any other things to check ?
As I said in my other post it'c completely dead, no light comes on at all.

If you have another mac, you should try to see if the Mac Pro can enter DFU mode.
If it can not enter DFU mode, then there is no other option than to let an Apple technician check it.

From what I read it needs to show some power to enter DFU mode. Or reset the NVRAM, PRAM and SMC. This is like the power supply has a blow fuse or tripped circuit breaker or is dead. I can't really afford to pay someone else hourly, to go on a fishing trip right now, especially what I imagine Apple would charge. I shouldn't even have put the W5700X on my card, but here I am.
I've always had good luck on Ebay with everything I've bought, but never in my wildest dreams did I think, even if the card didn't work, it would take out the whole computer.
I reached out to the seller, who said he's not a Mac guy, and if we can't figure it out he would refund me, but that still leaves me with a dead computer.
I really appreciate your trying to help.
With all the great Mac people here I was hoping to run into the person who's done a lot of hardware work, specifically the power supply on these.
I see power supplies listed between $99 and $150, I guess if there's no fuse or breaker anywhere to replace or reset, If I could get a confirmation it has been tested and works I could roll the dice and try that.

The DFU mode is very different from normal boot mode.
You have to hold the power on, while inserting the power cable. It powers the T2 chip and internal SSD pair. The CPU etc is not powered. At least from my experience working on an iMac Pro.

The computer lives at a venue an hour from me, I use it for recording and hosting some plugins via Dante, there are no shows for the summer for the next month or so. Was out yesterday and tried what reader 50 suggested with no luck.
I'm going out next Tuesday and will bring it home to work on it. I have to go out of state the end of next week for work so it might take me a couple weeks to dig into this.

That tear down of your iMacPro is something I don't think I would have tried, I did replaced the hard drive of my 2010 iMac years ago.
I am open to try anything absolutely. When you press the power button should the fans at least start spinning ?
At home I do have a 2018 MacBook Pro with Sonoma and also a M1 Studio running Sequoia I could use.

The 4,1 and 5,1 do not have a T1 or T2 chip, so there is no DFU mode available.

Well, I got the computer to the house, and it started right up. I made a system drive back up to an external, and reinstalled the WX5700X and it booted right up again. It said it needed a system update to 15.5 so I let it update, then on the restart, it just didn't. Back to not starting. I used my 2018 MacBook Pro to try DFU mode it said I needed to download some software to the laptop, I did, then tried to revive it. It started, then stalled for along time. Said it couldn't do it, but I noticed it was no longer connected so I tried again. This time it kept giving me a notification that it couldn't connect the thunderbolt device, and wouldn't go into DFU anymore. I was using an Apple USB C cable. So I grabbed a OWC Thunderbolt 4 cable rated for 100 watts and hooked to my M1 Mac Studio. Went right into DFU, downloaded, installed and verified what it wanted, very fast and started right up. It started finishing the update install, said it had 9 minutes to go and it did. Seems to be working.

I'm thinking there's something else going on with it. It had sat for about three weeks, not started, when I replaced the card. I'm wondering if I would have tried starting it once before I put the card in, if it would have started then.
It will be home for a few weeks so I can start it every day and see what happens.

Could the motherboard battery dying cause things like this to happen ?

The battery should not be a problem, I think. They last for years. On old PCs I've seen battery empty, with the system clock reset to default as a result. But otherwise they would be fine.
