Hey all - I just replaced my hard drive last night.. took forever. the three screws in the battery compartment are the most small and most difficult screws to take out. Well I replaced the 12'' powerbooks hard drive and the only sign of life is that when I press my power button I can see that there is electricity only by sign of the caps lock light, otherwise nothing else happens.

i can turn it on and off, but the whole system wont turn on. does anyone have any advice

Did you put everything back in properly? The big keyboard wire is connected to the logic board and the hard drive is connected up?

You didn't take any RAM out or anything? I'm not quite sure what's wrong.

Take a look at this guide and make sure you've followed the steps correctly.

I followed that guide exactly! I have everything connected properly. The only possibile thing that I have done wrong is perhaps put a different type of screw in a different place. For example, I had trouble fitting my battery back in because I used a longer screw that was blocking it which was two of the six screws that are holding the keyboard/upper platform down. so I switched them with shorter screws that let me fit the keyboard back in. I was intalling OSx when my computer just shut off after almost a full install. If I unscrew the compartment that holds the RAM, my computer will successfully start up. Otherwise, my computer makes no representation of being on other than the 'caps lock' key lighting up when I turn the power on

Okay, so I have successfully installed the 10.4 on the computer. I was running the computer and installing the system on battery power. Now that the operating system is loaded it says that there are no batteries available, but the computer was running on the battery for a good hour.

    Any ideas about this?

As I previously posted, my computer turned off while doing the installation of the operating system. Since then I turned my computer back on and booted the start up disk. It said that there was some 600mb left to install, so I tried to install still with out formattting what had previously been installed. The installation process was definitely a full one, so I dont know what the 600mb installation meant. Currently only 4gb of my hard drive has been used up so I assume that the operating system didnt install twice, but any words of advice on this would be much appreciated.
