Apple is apparently catching up a little, at least. Two Apple stores on Long Island, NY had both space grey and silver in stock for pick up (or $9 express delivery) yesterday. I order one online and picked it up less than a hour later...

Are people using their head when they say "people are buying replacements already?" "why do people need replacements? they must not last long" like if you've ever owned over ear headphones you know the cushions don't last forever. people ordering now are just doing it for a color swap, not necessity

I think some of us are just mesmerized that many people went into these for almost $600 (assuming some tax usually)...and then are ready to fork over another $80-ish for "extra" or "different color" ear pads.

Nothing wrong with it...

Just amazing to some that people are all into these at these prices. All good.
People can and should spend on what they care to.

These aren't my thing, but interested to see opinions from others for certain.

They must wear out fast for people to be buying replacements so soon.
I’ve been wearing APM between 3-8 hours daily last 3 weeks so far still in perfect condition. I’ve been taking great care of APM cleaning them often with electronic wipes.

Yes... It's similar to people paying $50+ for an extra watchband or two to customize their Apple Watch.

Most likely people have at least $69 of disposable income and want to burn it on ear cups to customize the look. Haven't heard of ear cups deteriorating yet.

Random observation... does anybody else spend less and less on Apple gear as their disposable income increases?

I remember as a kid that (for example) I'd get $2000 for a job and BOOM... straight away I'd buy a new Mac. $300 spare? BOOM, iPod time!!!

Now I'm way less up to date with what Apple's latest new product is, care a lot less about what it is and will skip multiple generations without really caring. Oh and I buy stuff from other brands without caring too much (e.g. didn't get an Apple watch, got one that suits my outdoor activities a little better).

My disposable income ends up going towards things like investment properties, holidays, taking my wife out...etc rather than clothes and Apple stuff.

Do these cushions not last long that people already need to buy replacements?
I’ve spent a month treating ear infections through three courses of different medication. Of course, I use ear pods but with iPod MAX condensation inside, humidity and fungus affinity to growth in dark places, I am concerned about MAX condensation. I use alcohol swabs on iPod ear buds. Condensation inside MAX is inaccessible.

People who own MAX best defence is to regular expose MAX ear cushions to UV light while inserting a second pair to use. That still doesn’t address hidden growth inside beyond the air cushion. But I want MAX over ear head phones to avoid infection from in-ear buds. I am just waiting to see how much more $$$ is required to service the design.

Then get an education, pull yourself up and get a better paying job so you can afford them.
He could just be joking.. Also just because someone CAN afford something doesn't mean it's worth it to them. I could afford to buy a brand new iPhone every year and keep my old one. I buy a new one every 2-3 years (and keep my old one) because it's not worth it to me. Better things to spend money on than $549 headphones. I'll wait till they go on sale.
