The home button just doesn't seem to have the same tactile feel either. It doesn't click properly (like my loaner or my old phone). My blackberry keys felt like this before they stopped working

Fear of something like this is exactly why I have been mourning the failure of my first phone. Now I have the hassle of trying to get apple to send me a phone that is 100%

Oy. So what do you think? Will apple deem these defects as severe enough for replacement?

I'm on my second iPhone, and the Home button is the same as you describe. However, everything about this phone is better... and I fear a replacement (the iPod sound quality on my 1st on sucked). But I have the same concerns... will they treat this as a defect? I hate the process of getting a new phone turned on. I should go ask at the Apple store, as this my 2nd phone and it's only 1 week old. Swap at the store?

yeah, i think i have to go in. the button i could get used to, perhaps its just the personality of this particular phone... but i'm now noticing that there are a few bright hotspots on the phone near the bottom of the touch screen. they are really obvious if the phone is in less than bright light and i have one color up on the screen. its brighter all along the left edge and bottom edge of the phone and there is a bright spot about hte size of a pencil eraser a few milimeters up from the bottom edge of the phone.

    am i being too picky?

    Well maybe a little picky.
But I would probably be the same way.
Afterall it was $600 and it should be right!!!

I'm on my third phone now. Between July 1 and Aug 3, I've had two phones with touch failure on portions of the screen. Each time got a new phone.

How are you guys getting them replaced? Mine has crackling noises while on a call, both on headset, speaker, and bluetooth. It wont complete a restore without failing to reimport my backup. And, the dimer doesn't work. When the auto dim is turned on the phone just goes dark. They wont set-up a replacement though, they are digging threw the logs.

Update: I got mine replaced this morning (because of the loose Home button). The manager took it to the back, and someone in the back said the button was a little suspect. So she put me with a Genius (who was kind of a dick). He told me these was nothing wrong with it... pulling his out of his pocket (which also had the loose home button). I told him all the ones in the store didn't have the funky button. He proceeded to warning me that the new one he's getting out of the box might be the same way. Of course, it wasn't loose... it was just like the 1st phone I got. The button is completely flush with the screen and not loose at all.

So all is happy. Although it might be my imagination, but this phone feels slightly heavier than the last one. I swear, phone #2 felt lighter that phone #1... and phone #3 feels like the weight of #1.

Oh, well sounds crazy... but everything seems great with this one. So don't let them tell you they all have loose Home Buttons... because they don't.

    update!!!!

just got back from the apple store...

i think 3rd time is the charm!

i didn't even MENTION the loose home button cuz i didn't want to seem too crazy.

i just complained about my bright spot. of course, the genious couldn't see the bright spot under the flourescent lights of the store, but he believed my sob story and took a brand new iphone out of its box and gave it to me!

so far so good. i don't see anything major wrong with it! the speaker seems loud and my husband said i was clear when i gave a test call.
