Crazy thought, but maybe you'd like to tell us what machine it's for?

I don't know how bad the shipping would be to the UK, but I have purchased several drives from OWC (http://www.macsales.com), including an external enclosure to re-use the old drives after I upgraded a couple of MacBooks.

The external enclosure with USB for SATA drives was an especially good deal at around $30. Just make sure that you choose an enclosure that has the right EXTERNAL interface you want for connecting to your computer (USB, Firewire, etc), and that it has the right INTERNAL interface for the drive you are pulling from your computer (SATA, etc).
