Replacement iPhone Question

I had my iPhone replaced yesterday, looked at the serial number and saw that the phone was made in week 1 of this year.

Would this be a brand new phone or are all replacements refurbs?

(I'm in Australia)

Wether if it was new or refurbished, it still got a new serial number which indicates the week it was built or inspected.

Could be either one.
