I can't think of anything good. Repairs from authorized repair centers would be expensive. You can take it to an Apple Store and see if depot repair is offered. The appeal to this is that they look over the entire machine. Overall the used option at that $300 mark is your middle ground. That's basically the budget option even if it's difficult to accept for older hardware. You can look around on ebay for better pricing or look at non functional units for parts if you want to do so. Obviously you would need both the tools and ability to make the swap. There isn't a thriving market for this stuff.
